Using innovative analytical tools, Transpo redesigned the local service plan to improve fixed route services, passenger travel times, and fleet utilization. The plan also reimagined how passengers accessed transportation and moved within their communities through microtransit recommendations. Electric Vehicle Feasibility Analysis Jefferson Transit Authority (JTA) Transpo assisted JTA in assessing the feasibility of transitioning their bus system to electric buses. Through detailed analysis, Transpo evaluated energy storage requirements, costs, and infrastructure upgrades, all while striving for a greener, more sustainable transportation solution. Finally, Transpo determined the total expected savings in greenhouse gas emissions from operating a fully electric fleet compared to the existing diesel fleet. Specific projects include Port Community System Development, ITS Project Grant Management and Procurement Support, West Seattle Bridge Scenario Planning and Modeling Support, and Tideflats Area Modeling. Southern California Freight Study CalTrans Transpo assisted Caltrans in developing a sustainable freight plan with a regional perspective on goods movement travel demands, sustainability challenges, innovative opportunities, and regional priorities. The study recommended a list of prioritized freight projects and strategies to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce congestion, increase system efficiency and throughput, and reduce freight impacts on health, safety, and quality of life in communities that are disproportionately affected by major freight impacts. Statewide Study of Road-Rail Crossing Improvements Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board (FMSIB) Transpo led a study for FMSIB to help better understand project needs that were developed (also by Transpo) as part of a prioritization of prominent road-rail conflicts for the Joint Transportation Commission. Transpo utilized the database developed from the prior effort, along with additional project data from Regional Transportation Planning Organizations (RTPOs) and Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPOs), to prepare a prioritized list of railroad crossing improvement projects utilizing a corridor-based process. We used a data driven approach to guide decisions, strategies and policies. Performance-based parking management strategies were developed to determine when and where to implement paid parking. Seattle Center Parking Study City of Seattle, WA Transpo prepared a strategic parking master plan for the Uptown Neighborhood and Seattle Center. Our work included an extensive data collection effort, stakeholder outreach, parking demand model and strategies that balanced the needs of the City, neighborhood, and businesses in the area. We addressed challenges related to redevelopment of the Mercer Garage, impacts of lost revenue, impacts of high-capacity transit, and feasibility of replacing through public/private partnerships. Permit Parking Program City of SeaTac, WA SeaTac’s parking system was experiencing pressures related to growth in the areas surrounding the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac Airport) and the Sound Transit light rail stations. Transpo assisted the City in developing a permit program that would maximize availability of parking, improve safety, support compliance, and provide a policy framework. The program was developed to meet near- and long-term needs by having community buy-in, on-going performance metrics to manage demands, and an attainable funding plan. Transportation Master Plan Seattle Children's Hospital To better serve an increasing volume of patients, Seattle Children’s Hospital developed a master plan to double the existing size. The transportation impacts of the expansion on the surrounding residential neighborhood were evaluated. Transpo developed 9 alternatives and prepared an EIS. Redmond Campus Rebuild Microsoft Transpo was an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team that developed a master plan for 3 million square feet of new office space on Microsoft’s East Campus in Redmond. Comprehensive traffic analysis was critical in determining the number, location and type of site access and evaluating on-site vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle circulation. Managing the Electrical and MOT Task force meetings, the team collaborated with WSDOT, the City of Bellingham, Whatcom Transit Authority, and other stakeholders. SR 11, connecting I-5 to the Fairhaven neighborhood, underwent temporary closures for fish barrier replacement. Transpo engaged with local stakeholders addressing concerns which ensured minimal impacts on pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicular traffic during the project. Kitsap County 29 Fish Passage Design Build WSDOT Transpo partnered with Kiewit Infrastructure Co to deliver the SR 3, SR 104, SR 303, and SR 307, Kitsap County Remove Fish Barrier project. This project consists of 29 locations to remove fish barriers on state highways and replace with fish passable structures. The project delivery is through the Progressive Design Build method. The project consists of two phases: preliminary engineering, and final engineering/design. Transpo’s work includes maintenance of traffic, traffic operations analysis, intelligent transportation systems, and illumination. I-405 & 85th Design Build WSDOT Transpo is involved on the I-405, NE 85th St Interchange and Inline BRT Station Design Build Project to replace the existing two-level cloverleaf interchange with a new three-level interchange supporting the future Sound Transit STRIDE Bus Rapid Transit and construction of new roadway improvements along NE 85th St. Transpo is serving at the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) lead on this project with Graham Construction. This project involves multiple stages of construction and coordination with multiple agencies including the City of Kirkland.
