Transpo is currently assisting Central Contra Costa Transit Authority in evaluating bus stop access, with emphasis on measuring the quality of pedestrian and bicycle connectivity. The effort is part of a larger project to improve transit access for non-motorized connections. We are applying ViaCity to measure parcel-level connectivity around each of CCCTA’s bus stops (approximately 1700) within urban areas. The connectivity scores are being combined with other built environment variables to develop a First & Last Mile (FALM) Strategic Model to quantify and prioritize the access improvements that are mostly likely to yield additional ridership accessed via walking or bicycle. Key household statistics including income, ethnicity and auto ownership are being integrated in the FALM model for sensitivity to the DOT/HUD/EPA Partnership for Sustainable Communities, as well as livability principles with an emphasis on social equity.
